Signs you and your dog already match:

    • Same 6:45 a.m. bedhead
    • Same wet hair after the rain walk
    • Same opinion about the vacuum
    • Same face when someone says "bath"

You've been a matching set for a while. The outfit just hasn't caught up.

Most matching dog and owner outfits are made for one photo. Plaid pajamas, a holiday sweater, a big smile, and back in the drawer by New Year. And if your dog is bigger than a beagle, the dog half usually doesn't come in their size at all.

This guide is about the other kind: matching gear you both actually wear out the door, in real weather, on the walks you take anyway. Warm sets for cold days, raincoats for wet ones, and a few tips for getting the holiday photo while you're at it.

    01Keep warm together

Matching sweaters, the walking version: a beanie and a coat

The whole point of matching sweaters is simple: you're both warm, and you look like a set. On a cold walk, the version that works is a beanie on you and a winter coat in the same color on your dog. Same job as a sweater. It just holds up to wind, slush and a dog who has to sniff every single tree.

    Snow days

Snowy Day Duo: the Snow Warrior snowsuit for your dog and a beanie for you, in Oasis blue or Sunset orange. Waterproof and fleece-lined, down all four legs.

Already have the coat? Just get the hat. The Puplover beanie comes in the same four colors as our winter coats, so it matches what your dog already wears. One hat, instant set.

Rainy day matching: two raincoats, one puddle

Rain is where matching stops being cute and starts being useful. Two raincoats, one walk, and nobody comes home soaked. The dog half of the Matching Raincoat Bundle is full body, so it covers the legs and belly too, which is where the mud actually goes.

Caitlin B. · Puddle Jumper raincoat review

The dog raincoat was named Clothing Product of the Year at the 2026 Pet Innovation Awards. It comes in Ripple, Eclipse and Overcast, and the human coat comes in the same three, so you can be as matchy as you like. For how the dog coat should fit, see how to choose a raincoat for a big dog.

    House rule

If it can't handle a puddle, it's a costume.Costumes are great for one evening. For the 700-odd walks you take together a year, you want the set that comes home dry.

How to match without looking like a costume

    • Match the color, not the print. A Blossom beanie with a Blossom fleece reads as "we're a team." Two identical prints head to toe reads as "we lost a bet."
    • Match the weather. You're both dressed for the same day: warm and soft on a cold morning, waterproof when it pours. That's what makes it look natural.
    • Let one piece do the talking. A hat that matches the dog's coat is enough. Nobody needs matching socks. Probably.
    • Your dog's comfort comes first. A coat that fits is the one your dog will happily wear, and a happy dog is the one who'll sit still for the photo.

Matching doesn't stop at you and your dog, either. One of our customers shared this, about her standard poodle:

“Rosie's best friend Nellie saw her snow warrior suit and wanted one too.”

The everyday match: a bandana and a scrunchie

Not every day is beanie weather, and not every match needs a whole outfit. The Mom & Pup Match Set is the small version: a bandana for your dog and a scrunchie in the same print for you. It works on the days a coat would be too much, indoors, and on a spring walk.

The scrunchie is the easiest matching piece there is. It goes on your wrist or in your hair, so even if you're not a hat person, you're still on the team. The bandanas come in Large and X-Large, sized for the big dogs we make everything for.

    Getting the holiday card photo

You matched. Now you want proof. A few things that make it a lot easier with a big dog:

    Five minutes, one good shot

    1. Walk first, shoot second. A dog who just ran around for twenty minutes sits a lot better than one who just woke up.
    2. Pick soft light. An overcast day or the shade of a building beats bright sun. Nobody squints, and dark coats don't turn into black blobs.
    3. Get down to their level. Crouch or sit so the camera is at your dog's eye height. You'll both look like you're in the same photo, not stacked on top of each other.
    4. Treats above the lens. Keep them in a pocket or a hip pack, hold one right over the camera, and you'll get the ears-up look.
    5. Use burst mode and quit early. Take a lot, keep one, and stop while your dog is still having fun. The best photo is usually the one you didn't plan.

    05Sizing

    Sizing both of you

Your dog: measure back length and chest, then check the size guide. Our coats are made for medium and large dogs, up to about a Great Dane, and the size finder works it out from those two numbers. You: the beanie is one size, and the human raincoat goes by your usual size. Not sure? Message us and a real person will help you pick, for both of you.

    Quick answers

Where can I find matching outfits for a big dog?

Most matching sets stop at medium. Ours are built for medium and large dogs from the start: the Chilly Day Duo, the Snowy Day Duo and the Matching Raincoat Bundle. You'll find all of them in our matching bundles.

Is it weird to match with your dog?

Only if you're doing it wrong, and there's no wrong way. Most people who try it once start planning the next color.

What should we wear for Christmas photos?

If there's snow, Sunset orange or Blossom pink stand out beautifully against white. No snow? The fleece and beanie set looks just as good on a cold porch. For more ideas, see our gift guide for dog people.

Can I buy the pieces separately?

Yes. The beanie, the coats and the human raincoat are all sold on their own. The duos and the raincoat bundle cost less than buying the two pieces one by one.

Which warm coat should my dog get?

Fleece for dry cold, the snowsuit for snow and slush. Our guide to choosing a winter coat for a big dog walks through it.
